Some weeks require milk and cookies. I had one of those weeks last week. Nothing catastrophic happened, just a series of events that led me to create this Chocolate Milk-tini and an awesome batch of cookies. I don’t want to dwell on it, so I’ll just tell you how the week began and how it ended. Just know the in between parts were equally as yucky.
Beginning of week: I had an early meeting scheduled last Monday morning. I volunteered to pick up Starbucks for my girlfriend, Laura, who was presenting that day. It’s kind of a rule we have, if a long presentation is scheduled, one of us brings the Starbucks. I pulled into my parking spot and went to grab our coffees out of the cup holders. One of the cups slipped through my hand and from there time went into slow motion. The end result was an entire Grande Soy Latte, with Two Splendas and No Foam spilled onto my passenger seat… every last drop! I, of course, had no napkins or towels, and was now late for a meeting.
End of week: Thursday night around 8PM, the boy got ready to do his homework. I deal with schoolwork in the same way my parents did with me. The boy is 100% responsible for his work. I don’t make him sit down after school and do it. He decides when to do it. The expectation is that it will be done on time and accurately. If he needs help, I’m there, but there is definitely no micro-managing. As he opened his binder that night, I noticed a look of sheer terror on his face. He then confessed that he needed to memorize a poem to present to his class the next day (a poem which he was given several weeks to work on). I wasn’t too worried at first. He memorizes things very quickly. Then I read the poem and shared in his terror. Thirty-two lines of a Rudyard Kipling poem… Are you kidding me? Mr. Rudyard Kipling, I know that you wrote the poem “If” in 1895, but seriously does your wording need to be so complex in such an Old English style? You were awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, so obviously you’re a great writer, but you wouldn’t advocate assigning a ten-year-old boy to memorize the poem, right? Two hours and one nervous breakdown later (my breakdown, not his), the boy pulled it off. I still can’t believe he memorized it. The boy was happy. My nerves were shot.
Those were just two of my favorite moments from the week. See why milk and cookies were required (plus a little vodka and chocolate to calm my nerves). All-grown-up chocolate milk is a great way to deal with a bad week. And if you’re having a great week, this martini and a few cookies will only make it better.
Chocolate Milk-tini
1 tsp. chocolate milk powder
1 oz Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur
1 oz. vodka
1 oz. Martini Gold Chocolate Mixer
Rim a martini glass with chocolate sauce and chill. Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake, pour, enjoy!
Variations
- Start with chocolate milk and add vodka and white chocolate liqueur.
- Substitute Godiva Liqueur for White Chocolate Liqueur.
- If you don’t have the chocolate mixer, this still will taste great.
Cheers to a fabulous week ahead, minus coffee spills and ridiculous homework assignments!

Wow! Quite the week. Kudos to *the boy* for his last minute memorization of the poem (quite the assignment to be sure!) Glad you all survived and no doubt this lovely drink certainly would have been a wonderful way to celebrate (for you of course, not *the boy*) LOL
