I know what you’re thinking, another cocktail – isn’t this supposed to be a baking blog? What can I say I take after my mom (and my dad for that matter). Already my anxiety is high today. People everywhere will be buzzing all day waiting for the results. As I get older, it scares me that so many people out there know very little about the propositions or the candidates and their plans, yet they show up and fill out a ballot. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about exercising this awesome right we have in America, but after watching the ads and listening to the very liberal media try to sway voters for an entire year, it’s enough to make me double my anxiety meds.
But before I tell you how I really feel, I’ll get off of my political band wagon and tell you who this all-American drink is for. One of my wonderful neighbors has graciously volunteered to open up her home to be a polling place – talk about love for your country. For a whopping 50 bucks or so, she has volunteered to have hundreds of people- many with their crabby children in tow go in and out of her garage all day to exercise their right to vote. My hope is that at 5 o’clock (or sooner) when I deliver this very patriotic shot to her, it will make her think about how much she loves our country and will remind her that this crazy historic day in her garage is almost history!
Patriotic Shot (Okay it isn’t red, white, and blue in that order, but you get the idea.)
grenadine
blue curacao
heavy whipping cream
Directions: Pour the ingredients in a shot glass in the order above.
There are several techniques to achieve this layered effect. If you’ve never made these layered cocktails, read the directions on the following link. http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Layered-Shots
Also, don’t forget to take advantage of the teachable moment when you’re children (like mine did) watch in amazement. (You can also show them with nonalcoholic liquids if you’d like.) The reason the liquids don’t mix has to do with the specific gravities of most liquors. The flavored syrups such as grenadine that do not contain alcohol have the highest specific gravity and will stay on the bottom. The ones with less sugar, but more alcohol will have a lower specific gravity and therefore float on top of the heavier ones.

So cute Katie, wish I was there to share them with you. Blue liquor reminds me of a certain cruise that we took many years ago. We wont say how many! Let’s just say you don’t have to be 21 to buy baby shot size liquor from the Caribbean.
hi dear!
This is soooooooooooooo cool! I totally agree w/you that we don’t know too much about the candidates or propositions yet we vote anyways…..aye! Keep up the good work in baking, mommying and being YOU! So blessed to be your neighbor!
