I Scream… Really, it’s Not About the Ice Cream Today!

It was my intent to have this post finished today, but I’ll have to share this fabulous recipe later this week. Sadly, a strike has been called and will begin tomorrow for my school district. When I started my career, this was the place that everyone hoped to get into. It had a reputation of attracting the best teachers in the county. Over the past few years, a group of seven individuals who were elected by the people have sought to destroy what has been built up for so many years. They are manipulative and have an agenda so much bigger than the issue being argued. The sad part is that the machine behind them has calculated every move and has done things in a way that will turn many parents against teachers. They do not care about the kids. I am angry. I am sad. I am in a very difficult position. I am a teacher, who is out of the classroom, working in a job that provides support to my fellow teachers and parents. I was not raised to be bullied. I was raised to stand up for what is right. Pray that this is resolved and that this group of seven will finally do the right thing. The long-lasting impact on teachers and our students will be devastating. It all makes me want to scream! I’ll be back to tell you about this amazing ice cream, and promise to be in much better spirits!

Kate I am so sorry to hear about this. These seven people don’t realize that the kids in school today are the ones that are going to be running are country in the next 10 – 20 years and are doing a total diservice to them. It is very frustrating how much education has been slashed across the board.

Oh Kate, I’m so sorry to hear about that.
I too am a teacher, (in Ontario), and I know how frustrating it can be when the parents do not feel the same as the teachers, or when they are not working together. I hope your issue is resolved. I have known many teacher strikes in the past, and am confident that this will resolve quickly (if not, the summer is lost). The community should be working with and supporting our local teachers.
    Good luck!

I am sorry that the strike is on and even more sorry that you and so many others are having to deal with that group of seven. “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” I am hoping that people come to their senses and realize why they were put in these positions of power in the first place. Hopefully they turn their agendas to serving the people needs instead of their own. Stay strong, good always wins out eventually.

Sorry Katie, I know you really did not want it to come to this. Stay strong. The kids matter most.

Thanks Paula! It’s been a tough day. But boy did we make a statement, over 90% of our teachers walked, more than half of our 22,000+ elementary students stayed home. Practically, no one at high school showed up. Thanks for your thoughts. i”m praying the Board cooperates so we can get back to work.

No kidding Kate. You don’t want a shortened summer! That is the worst!
