I swear the older I get, the faster my life goes by – if only I could slow it down! It’s like when you’re reading a great book and you don’t want to get to the end – it’s that good, so you take your time and enjoy every word of it.
Well, ready or not, another year is upon us. It’s hard to miss the many shows and articles informing us who was the biggest celebrity, what was the biggest news story, and who was the top Internet search in 2008 (which by the way was Britney Spears. Come on, are people really googling her?) In addition to the unavoidable “year in reviews”, the “experts” are also revealing their predictions for 2009. You’ll be thrilled to know that Victoria Beckam will become pregnant with a long awaited girl and that the recession will only last until the middle of 2009. Thankfully, Nostradamus did not predict the world will end in 2009. He’s saved that for 2012.
Did you know that the “experts” have also selected a color of the year? Pantone is a company considered by many as “the global authority on color”. Who are these people? I want to sit with a bunch of executives and get paid to debate the color of the year.
As we bid farewell to Blue Iris, 2008’s color of the year, let’s gladly welcome Mimosa 2009’s color of the year. According to the press release, Mimosa was selected because the “warm, engaging yellow… embodies hopefulness and reassurance in a climate of change” Hmmm….I guess this means that we’ll start to see the general public wearing this yellow-orange color from head to toe and people madly rushing to Target to redecorate their homes. No offense to the selection committee, but Mimosa would not have been my pick for 2009. I think I would have made my case for hot pink. But I will admit, Mimosa’s starting to grow on me. It’s definitely a happy color and there are an infinite number of cocktails I can create in this hue.
Tomorrow before the ball drops, I’ll be drinking my “Blue Iris Martini” and toasting to the end of a wonderful year. At midnight I don’t expect to be having that “When Harry Met Sally Moment” when I kiss my true love (click on the link to watch it. Who doesn’t love this scene?). I’ll be content sipping my “Hold the Champagne and Add a Bunch of Other Stuff Mimosa” as I toast to the new year ahead. I can’t wait to see what surprises are in store in 2009. Cheers and have a happy and safe New Year’s!
1oz. amaretto
1 oz. malibu rum
2 oz. blue curacao
3 oz. pineapple juice
Add all of the ingredients to a martini shaker filled with ice, shake, pour, and garnish with fresh blueberries!
2 oz. orange juice
2 oz. pineapple juice
1 oz. spiced rum
1 oz. malibu rum
1 oz. banana liquer
dash of fresh orange juice
Add all of the ingredients to a martini shaker filled with ice, shake, pour, and garnish with an orange slice.
*I do enjoy a Mimosa in the morning, but couldn’t see myself drinking an actual Mimosa at midnight. This one is more like a tropical fruit punch. Be careful, it will catch up with you if you pour too many.
