Hope everyone had a great weekend! Don’t you love this sign above? I’m printing it, framing it, and displaying it on my dessert table for our Halloween pumpkin party. Jessica, of Craftily Ever After, created it and posted it on her blog. She’s generously created a pdf file to share it with her readers. Go check out her blog. I love it!
It feels fabulous to be posting a cocktail this Monday. The past few weeks have been crazy… not crazy in a bad way, just crazy like there are not enough hours in the day to accomplish everything on my to-do list.
This weekend I played catch-up and it felt great to check off so many things on my never-ending list. I even had a chance to start planning our annual pumpkin carving party. A few nights before Halloween, friends and family stop by to celebrate with us. The kids get excited to carve pumpkins together and vote on their favorites, and the grown-ups get excited for the holiday martini tasting (or at least I do).
My mom and I invested in mini martini and mini wine glasses awhile ago, and we have gotten a ton of use out of them. For people who don’t drink very much, it’s just a few tastes, and for those who enjoy adult beverages, they get to taste all of the options and decide which martini they want super-sized.
The first signature martini for this year’s party is this pumpkin pie martini. Trust me on this, all pumpkin pie martinis are not created equal. Yesterday morning, while still in my jammies, it took several attempts to make a 5 star pumpkin martini. The secret ingredient is the butterscotch schnapps. If you follow my blog, you know that I don’t tell you to go buy a liqueur, unless I plan on sharing several great recipes that use that liqueur. The butterscotch schnapps and the pumpkin spice liqueur are both reasonably priced, and I plan on putting both to use this winter. Here’s a few recipes below that I’ve previously created with butterscotch schnapps.
sugar cookie martini (This one was named “Best of the Web” last winter by Saveur magazine)
1 oz. Hiram Walker’s pumpkin liqueur
1/2 oz. butterscotch schnapps
1/2 oz. Bailey’s
1/2 oz. cream (or half and half)
Rim a martini glass with cinnamon sugar and chill. Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice. Shake, pour, enjoy!
You know what really made this a great weekend. I found my prince at Roger’s Gardens in Newport Beach. Isn’t he amazing? He was totally worth the wait!
Cheers to another fabulous fall week everyone!
