It’s been a wet week in our house and we’re still singing the blues. It started with a simple drip, drip, drop in the dead of night. A few hundred drips and a whole bunch of drops later, a small flood greeted us in our kitchen. Okay, I’m exagerrating a little (I am my mother’s daughter.). But God does have a sense of humor. Sitting exactly, perfectly centered under the drip, drip drops was my precious, can’t-live-without it laptop. My instinct was to “freak out”, as the boy would put it, but I quickly remembered my lifelong task, as a mom, to instill a “glass is half full” attitude in my son (in this particular case, the bucket is half full). So I
proceeded to explain, “No one died. No one was injured, It could be worse. Mom will get a night job at Seven Eleven to pay for the damage – I left the last line out.) I did my best to drain my laptop, served waffles on the couch, and drove off like a crazy woman for morning carpool. I chose to look on the bright side and prayed for a plumber as beautiful as James Denton, from Desperate Housewives, to appear on my doorstep when I returned.
Long story short. I turned the water off. Dad to the rescue (not James Denton, but I wasn’t complaining). The drywall dried up. The laptop appears to have drowned, but has not yet been officially pronounced dead… May it rest in peace!
As if that wasn’t enough, the love of my life was voted off American Idol. Okay, the flood I can handle. The laptop drowning, I will deal with. Danny Gokey being voted off - the glass is looking pretty empty. Several girlfriends called with their condolences today. Now those are true friends!
May your martini glass be at least half full and your kitchen stay dry this weekend! Cheers!
