The Wiener Nationals Wrap-up, the Hottest Dog, and The Real Martini of Orange County!

We had a great time at the Wiener Nationals on Saturday night and spent all day yesterday recovering (the pup from physical exhaustion and me from the Kendall Jackson sports bottle). Thanks to our friends and family for joining in the fun! The pup didn’t win, but the boy decided that was okay because she wouldn’t have fit in the Wienerschnitzel dog house, which was the grand prize anyway. She’s not fat, just big boned! She came in 4th in her race and ran in the right direction. If you’ve ever seen these little pups race, you know that that in itself is a victory. The 2009 Wiener National title went to Presley. His victory race is posted on YouTube. Looks like Winnie will have to try again next year! Her fan club will be back!

We had a big group cheering her on and our shirts turned out great. Odie’s dad, Jeff, made the t-shirt design (see below) and also a video application for Odie which is hilarious. We live just a few miles from several of the “Real Housewives of the OC”. (Are we lucky or what?) They’ve given Orange County such a bad rap. We run into them at Starbucks and Target and one of our favorite martini bars regularly. I really try not to say anything bad about people, but the sense of entitlement and celebrity attitude is such a sad statement of our time.  There’s no question, out of 100 pups, Winnie was the hottest in OC.

The highlight of the night was a covert mission that, for the record, I was in no way part of. Winnie’s brother Odie ended up not making it the whole night and left early. Rather than be scratched from his race, his sister was put in his place. Luckily, my little imposter was not found out. If anything, she’s consistent – she (or should I say) Odie came in 4th in the 10th race too. My mom had a blast betting on all of the horse races with her grandson and his best buddy. She, of course, fronted the money to these 8 year-olds. Isn’t that what grandmas are for? The boys were super disappointed when the jockey riding their pick for first place in an early race fell off his horse. Their luck got better as the evening progressed and I think all three of them walked away a little bit richer.

The night was a great summer memory! Cheers to friends and family who are always willing to come out and offer support! Have a great week!
