Do you remember getting icees as a kid from the movie theatre or from 7-Eleven? You’re never too old for an icee and this one is all grown up. Watermelon and vodka are a good combination and there are many recipes out there that pair these ingredients. There’s nothing more refreshing than watermelon on a hot summer day.

If you’re wanting to reminisce about your college days, you may want to try the ”old school” spiked watermelon recipe. Don’t even tell me I was the only one who did this. If you missed this college experience, basically you take a watermelon, pour in the vodka, let it all soak in, and then cut into slices. By all means, go for this if it sounds good to you. Obviously, this treat is not one to share with the kids! Card all of your guests before you serve!

Now if Prince Charming is on his way over and you need to whip up something a little classier (God forbid, he find out you’d actually consider spiking a watermelon), blend up this watermelon vodka slushee, pour it in a fancy martini glass, and wait until date two to let him see the real you!

Watermelon Vodka Slushee

4 c. watermelon flesh, seeds removed

2 oz. simple syrup

2 tbsp. lemon juice

1 c. vodka *

In a blender, puree the watermelon flesh. Pour the pureed watermelon flesh into empty ice cube trays and freeze for approximately 4 hours. In a blender, combine the frozen watermelon cubes, simple syrup, lemon juice, and vodka. Blend until smooth. Pour and garnish with a piece of watermelon.

* I used watermelon vodka the first round. The bottle is photographed in the picture. You’re better off opting for regular vodka. It was a bit sweet, even for yours truly!
